Tragedy struck yesterday at the federal university, Oye-Ekiti, Ikole Campus, as a Lecturer, Engr O. D. Komolafe from the department of Mechanical Engineering was confirmed dead. Information has it that the deceased had been battling with different health challenges, which later resulted to his death. According to Fuoyesu General Secretary, Comrade Mohammed Ilyas, he said that engineer Komolafe has been absent from school for some time now due to health issues. He described his death as sardonic and a great loss for every inhabitants of Ikole Campus. "All Engineering students are going to miss him. He was a great teacher, mentor and father to many. May God give him eternal rest and give the family the strength to bear the great pain", he added. In lieu of that, all academic activities have been cancelled for today, in honor of the deceased lecturer. May God give the deceased family fortitude to assail the rigour. Amen.

Non-academic staff of Nigerian universities will on Monday begin a three-day nationwide protest as a notice of their intention to go on an indefinite strike over the failure of the federal government to implement its agreement with them. The agitation by the non-teaching staff is coming four months after their colleagues in the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) suspended their two-month strike. The non-academic unions, comprising the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), said the agreement now in contention had made them suspend their own industrial action in March last year. According to the chairman of the Joint Action Committee of the unions, Samson Ugwoke, the protest will precede the resumption of the strike. ”We are directing our members to mobilise for a protest on 15th July to send a notice of strike to the federal government, ” he said. Ekiti Employs 5,000 Youths For Community Services Ekiti State Government, in partnership with the World Bank, has employed 5,000 jobless youths whose ages range from 18 and 45 years for community services in state. The programme was executed under the auspices of the World Bank-sponsored scheme called Youths Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO).YESSO is a community development programme to provide temporary jobs for youths in form of labour-intensive activities involving cleaning of public utilities like roads, buildings, palaces, drainages, among others. A SS3 student of Jubril Martins Memorial College, Iponri Lagos, Rafiu Adagun, has been beaten to death during the ongoing West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) by a gardener, Femi Aderounmu.
