FUOYE SENIOR COUNCILLOR LAMENTS
A senior councillor in Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Mrs. Olugbenga, has lamented about the lack of awareness among the councils of the medical centr, FUOYE chapter.. She has been working in the school for about a year and a half after studying guidance and counseling in Ondo State University, now EKITI State University (EKSU).
She has the experience of meeting, motivating, and encouraging students and having different programmes for them concerning their academics. Buttressing the fact that working I'm Fuoye was interesting from the start, but most of the students are not aware of the presence of councillors in the school, i.e, the rate of the students that are aware are very low. To create awareness more councillors are needed at the medical centre, because the school has only one councillor and the remaining ones are administrative officers, which means they can leave the department every time and be posted somewhere else.
Moreso if there are enough councillors in the school, they will be posted to each faculty so that the students can be handled very well. In respect of this, lack of awareness does not allow the medical centre to move forward.
Also, there is no conducive environment for the counselling unit, no equipments, no facilities required by the counsellors,so this makes it very difficult for the presence of the councillors to the felt. Also, when they want to counsel students, they have to start looking for a peaceful environment or a quiet place because of privacy. She also talked about how an interviewer came to have an interview her and they had to go somewhere else because the place was not conducive for the interview.
