SPEECH DELIVERED BY THE SPEAKER, EKITI YOUTH PARLIAMENT, RT. HON. TOBA FATUNLA, IN COMMEMORATION OF THIS YEAR'S DEMOCRACY DAY CELEBRATION

I wish to felicitate with all Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day Celebration in Nigeria. June 12 is indeed, a memorable day in the lives of Nigerians. It is the day we reclaim all our civil liberties, a day to sit and assess how we all got here, a day to relax and probe how far we have gone. Regardless of the present situation of the economy, we should be thankful for the freedom we’ve got. The essence of a true democratic society is for us to have freedom and the liberty to fundamental human rights. When we stand for our rights, then we stand for freedom. Freedom is what we need, freedom is what we crave for, it's the bane of our existence.  We have come together as one, we have decided to unite in the face of adversity. We have decided to help one another to make life beautiful. We have decided to raise the flag of the nation because Nigeria is ours!  If you decide to give up on freedom, it means you have decided to give up on life. Freedom gives you the right to lif...

The Contributions of Akin Rotimi to Ekiti Development

It is another great privilege for me as a youth leader in Ikole Local Government to appreciate one of our fantastic, brilliant and outstanding Sons; Akin Rotimi.  This axis have not had light for about 3 years since the last transformer got burnt. Yesterday, Akin Rotimi donated a transformer to the Odo-Ayedun community, which cost about 4million naira. To clarify, this project was done solely as a personal initiative supported by his friends, and is remarkably different from other instances when public office holders facilitate government doing such projects. Those who know Akin Rotimi know that the commendable transformer project is one of many things he has done in Ekiti state very quietly. He is a silent achiever who believes in impact and not noise. I was wondering why he decided not to talk or make media noise about all these impactful and life-touching projects. But then, I recall his kind of person, passion and commitment to human capital development without noise....

The federal judge in New York ruled that President Donald Trump’s acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf was not lawfully serving in his role when he issued the new rules for the DACA program in July. The ruling is another victory for proponents of the Barack Obama-era program after the US Supreme Court in June rejected Trump’s cancellation of it. President-elect Joe Biden, who defeated Trump in the November 3 polls, had pledged to reinstate the program when he takes office on January 20. Wolf, who has not been confirmed in his role by the US Senate, issued new restrictions on the program in response to the Supreme Court ruling. Saturday’s court decision said his restrictions “effectively suspended” DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, while the Trump administration reviewed how to proceed. Wol...
