Beware of Miscreants Parading themselves as FUOYE Students, FUOYESU Alerts Members of the Public

Protesters

The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti Students' Union Government, FUOYESU, has countered a speculation of its involvement in an incident that occurred in Abuja, where some miscreants reportedly paraded themselves as students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, carrying placards and protested against the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina.

The Student Union body strongly condemned the act, describing it as evil and scandalous.

Reacting to the incident, the FUOYESU President, Comrade Alabi Johnson Sunday, warned the members of the public to denounce the rumor of its involvement, adding that the union isn't in the known of the acclaimed protest.

"Our attention has been drawn to what I can describe as an unfortunate incident which happened in Abuja. Some miscreants paraded themselves as students of our noble institution, protesting against our amiable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina. A video clip making the rounds revealed that the miscreants are demanding that the anti-graft agencies should probe our VC over some trumped up allegations not known to anyone.

"We strongly condemn this very egregious and laughable acts by these unscrupulous fellow and it is unfortunate some disgruntled elements can go to the extents of parading thugs as students of our noble institution just to score cheap political goals against the performing new Vice Chancellor. We, therefore, seize this opportunity to emphatically state that these miscreants are not our students and the union isn't in the known of the protest", he said.

Speaking further, Comrade Alabi said that the miscreants are hired thugs who were merely carrying out a hatchet job given to them by enemies of progress of the university.

"We make bold to declare that as a Student Union body, we cannot recognize any one of those in the video clip as our colleagues in FUOYE. They are strange faces and do not have any relationship with FUOYE", Alabi declared.

He called on heads of all security agents to as a matter of urgency arrest the perpetrators if such is done again.

While describing the protesters as impersonators, enemy of peace and a threat to national peace and tranquillity, Comrade Alabi noted that "the perpetrators should be brought to book."

Alabi described Prof. Fasina as  a great inspiration and motivator, who enjoys the support of all the staff members and students of FUOYE.

He was quoted as saying that "this is a man who attends to our needs and plights first before any other personal or official matters, and solves our problems as soon as we bring them before him. In the space of his first hundred days in office, he got us a brand new vehicle and has promptly attended to all our needs. He warmly welcomes our ideas despite his busy schedules. Other areas we have felt his strong impact in FUOYE include developing entrepreneurial projects, building of students SUG building, and beautifying the campus environment among others. Through his recent accumulated achievements despite his short stay in office, FUOYE has gained positive connotations and on its part to a high pedestal of fame. Prof. Fasina's love for the students is second to none! How can we be against such a great man."

He urged the general public to directly reach out to the union for any clarification on any issue, dealing with the miscreants, which may pose a high risk to them.

CITIZENS’ RIGHT AND POLICE INJUSTICE IN NIGERIA

By: Ebo Emmanuel             Police Injustice mostly used to refer to various human rights violations by police which might include beatings, racial abuse, unlawful killings, torture, or indiscriminate use of riot control agents at protests. At its worst, unlawful use of force by police can result in people being deprived of their right to life. If police force is unnecessary or excessive, it may also amount to torture or other ill-treatment. Unlawful force by police can also violate the right to be free from discrimination, the right to liberty and security, and the right to equal protection under the law.           In countries with high rates of killings by police, there is often a combination of factors including inadequate laws, racial or other forms of discrimination, insecurity or conflict, and entrenched impunity. Governments who routinely trample on other human rights like freedom of expression and peaceful assembly often a...
