BEING A SPEECH DELIVERED BY RT. HON. TOBA FATUNLA, SPEAKER, EKITI YOUTH PARLIAMENT, IN COMMEMORATION OF THE YULETIDE SEASON AND THE NEW YEAR

Protocols:

It is with immense gratitude to almighty God that I welcome us all into the festive season of the birth of Christ and another transition into a New Year.

As it is often said that time is fleeting in that the year 2021 we all started in January is counting and almost running to an end, there is much to be appreciated in the way God has favoured the Ekiti Youth Parliament, EYP on many fronts.

It is an undeniable fact that the EYP and other youth Parliaments in the country have continued to contribute significantly to the development and improvement of youths, thus, recognized as a symbol of excellence in service delivery and leadership.

My dear youths, let me caution at this point that even as we have much to be grateful to God for over our achievements in 2021, the year 2022 will be a defining year for the parliament because of its importance to our strategic vision.

It is the year earmarked for greater exploits and impact, as we cannot afford to rest on our oars. We must rededicate our efforts with renewed energy and enthusiasm towards achieving the core mandates of our youths.

Going forward, It is the season of Love and retrospection, a moment to rejoice, celebrate and ponder on our successes and failures over the year. Here comes the time to rekindle our hopes and be optimistic about the future.

I, therefore, charge our youths to be focused and do things moderately as we approach the new year.

As we reflect on 2021, it has been a year of many firsts, changes, and surprises!

No doubt, 2022 holds in store unknown adventures, as well as exciting moments and opportunities. It's hoped and believed that after this time out, we all return refreshed, renewed, and refocused for a productive 2022. The incoming year is a year for Ekiti to make a decision, our decision therefore must be guided by conscience as we together choose who would change the fortune of the State.

I must also at this juncture, reiterate our commitment to youth development in the state and nation at large, as we'll continue to develop initiatives as well as embark on activities that will impact our youths positively.

Finally, we beseech governments at all levels to up their efforts in the area of youth development and empowerment as a panacea to societal instabilities.

CITIZENS’ RIGHT AND POLICE INJUSTICE IN NIGERIA

By: Ebo Emmanuel             Police Injustice mostly used to refer to various human rights violations by police which might include beatings, racial abuse, unlawful killings, torture, or indiscriminate use of riot control agents at protests. At its worst, unlawful use of force by police can result in people being deprived of their right to life. If police force is unnecessary or excessive, it may also amount to torture or other ill-treatment. Unlawful force by police can also violate the right to be free from discrimination, the right to liberty and security, and the right to equal protection under the law.           In countries with high rates of killings by police, there is often a combination of factors including inadequate laws, racial or other forms of discrimination, insecurity or conflict, and entrenched impunity. Governments who routinely trample on other human rights like freedom of expression and peaceful assembly often a...
