At its worst, unlawful use of force by police can result in people being deprived of their right to life. If police force is unnecessary or excessive, it may also amount to torture or other ill-treatment. Unlawful force by police can also violate the right to be free from discrimination, the right to liberty and security, and the right to equal protection under the law. In countries with high rates of killings by police, there is often a combination of factors including inadequate laws, racial or other forms of discrimination, insecurity or conflict, and entrenched impunity. The FUOYESU stakeholders meeting, held today, ended in abrupt chaos as a result of issues relating to the student Union caretaker committee delegation. Comrade Awe, a member of the SRC, representing the department of demography and social statistics starred up the argument, which hit the wrong cord in the acclaimed faculty Presidents, who also happens to be members of the SUG caretaker committee. He laid claim that a larger number of the current SUG caretaker committee members are Presidents of various faculties in the school, hence, becoming unconstitutional for them to hold two different executive portfolios at the same time, or better still, resign from the former post and handover immediately to their vice Presidents, if they should continue with the current appointment.
